Every other thought than that which is true is a "lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God".

We should, as you say, pity those who would do such a thing...

JonUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16466838495115756231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21212024.post-48667175858896107352007-04-17T11:28:00.000-07:002007-04-17T11:28:00.000-07:00I hate google sometimesOf course, perhaps I could ...I hate google sometimes

Of course, perhaps I could pay more attention to it.

the above post is meDavid A. The latter is meaningless without the former; the former necessarily issues in the latter. To single out one without the other is to advocate breath without lungs, or blood circulation without a heart. Without truth, one has no clue as to whether a life must change, or why, or by what means, or in what manner. On the other hand, if the life does not change, is not affected, then truth has not been embraced. Divorcing the two is damnable folly."

thus you have really summed up the problem with "liberal" christianity (as much as I hate to use that term) - they have embraced the practice, but neglected the truth. Thus their practice truly has no Christ in it.

2nd qoute:

"Or, to put it in Johannine terms, a relationship with God comes from and is sustained in the words, the verbally-expressed doctrines, of the apostles. It is how we "do" Christianity.

Does truth matter? God says it does.

Woe to him who thinks he knows better."

And thus you have struck at the problem with the "fundi" in fundentalism - the adding requirements, or practice, as if it were a biblical mandate, when no such biblical doctrine exists. Thus they deny the very sufficiency of scripture. Resolution #5 strikes me as very close to that - It is reasonable to choose to abstain from alcohol for a number of reasons - but when you describe it as a biblical mandate, when clearly it is not, you then have denied the suffiency of scripture by adding your own words to scripture.

That too is "damnable folly"

as to dating the books, Hampton Keathley puts John, J1/2/3 at the same time (85-90) and Rev after that (90-95)

http://www.bible.org/page.php?page_id=2077David A. The two are inseparable, as much as many today want to set "content" and "application" in contrast to one another. We are to proclaim the truth of the Word and teach how it must impact our "walk", to use John's terms.

Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement to keep doing this.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21212024.post-88391699918996363462007-04-17T07:24:00.000-07:002007-04-17T07:24:00.000-07:00This reminded me of the Truth Project, done by Foc...This reminded me of the Truth Project, done by Focus on the Family.
