Sadly, what was true of liberalism then is all too true in the so-called "evangelical movement" today. "Evangelicals" have to a very large degree rejected the reality of God's wrath. They have disregarded His hatred for sin. The god most evangelicals now describe is completely benevolent and not the least bit angry.

Post-modern "evangelicals" have forgotten (or simply refused to believe) that "It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (Heb. 10:31). These days, they are the ones saying, "We do not believe in that kind of God any more."

He is dead right. Our neglect and sometimes outright rejection of the timeless truths of theology proper have led us down the primrose path to the brink of out-and-out liberalism and apostasy. The simple truth of God's righteous nature being driven into our carnal hearts would save us from this calamity.

A love that neglects justice is no love at all.Momohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04292177473341691525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21212024.post-1143047471404436332006-03-22T09:11:00.000-08:002006-03-22T09:11:00.000-08:00Phil, can you do me a favor and shake John MacArth...Phil, can you do me a favor and shake John MacArthur's hand for me ? I may or may not get a chance to interact with him at Together for the Gospel, but I definitely want to meet up with him one day on this side of glory and tell him thanks for his ministry to the body of Christ.

This post reminds me of something I need to blog about.... as we grow more in holiness, we become more acutely aware of all of our tendencies toward sin and the existing sin in our lives. I spent time 'beating up' on myself in the past about me 'not growing enough', but the fact is, I am growing - as I study the scriptures, I become more aware of God's holiness and glory (via the agency of the Spirit illuminating my mind to understand more of the scriptures) and how much more broken and undone I stand as sinful man in the presence of a Holy and Righteous Judge. I'm growing toward holiness... and as I do, the sinfulness of sin becomes more apparent to me than before.BlackCalvinist aka G.R.A.C.E. I would say that it is only against the backdrop of divine love can the full significance of God's wrath be truly understood. I am NOT a liberal or a pomo but I believe that God revealed Himself first in love and then in wrath as that love was denied. He is a God of both (and so much more) but in review of Biblical actions we see a God whose love compels him to express wrath. Note Zechariah 14:2 as the nations gather against Jerusalem nevertheless a remant will not be cut off because of His love. I'd be interested to hear some perspective on this, I have really been thinking about this concept.
