Here's something you don't see every day

by Frank "centuri0n" Turk
It's called "The Gospel".

Why, how quaint. Turns out we didn't need an actor with a secular political axe to grind to hear it, either.

I also wanted to point out that right now my posts have drawn more flies, uh, comments than anyone else's, including Phil's.

booyah. Or as the WORD VERIFICATION says, "wejxajm".

Love ya Bro!
Oh, and your posts draw a lot of comments by the way.

Oh, and its really "gilzvzrh".

Ah, yes. I had noticed that. Perhaps it is because you have the ever-elusive gravitas of which the rest of us only dream (except for Pecadillo--that dude is heavy.

Flies are drawn to honey. Flies are also drawn to things that are, um, not honey. I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Btw, I knew something was up when my stats went crazy. This must be what it feels like to be the moon, enjoying the light reflected from a more luminous body. Like those rays emanating from your head.

It's a great story, well worth hearing. But it's sort of about the gospel, not the gospel itself.

So... if I think there is a clear presentation of the gospel in a hollywood-quality movie that is being acted out by people who may not be Christians at all....?

Oh, wait, nevermind. Someone already answered my question:

"But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice."

Steve - clearly that is a shekinah of glory and not merely a pious nimbus or halo. ;-)

That was quite a good link Frank. If anyone is reading this who hasn't followed the link - go back and follow it. Great testimony.

Hey Centuri0n, yeah, yeah, yeah, so you got to go first and you get the most comments, BUT you don't have any stockers yet calling you a liberal or a Romanist. I do, and that's got to be worth something.

Wait till Phil dopes cessationism!

Did I say "stockers" instead of "stalkers"? Yeah, I deserve a kick in the pants for that one, too.

Cent, is that a monkey on your back? Nice to see you're keeping those axes sharp.

That's the gospel? Calling that very nice little story "the gospel" is a comment that is either weak-minded or thoughtless. I don't mind the story - but I do mind these ridiculous oohs and aahs. The truly appreciative of the doctrines of grace knows that a person who turns to the Lord does so because God in his Providence insists that Thus It Will Be. The preacher is necessary but he's not The Story!

The practice of confusing talk about human actions with the gospel goes back to the 1830's when the tide of humanism finally overpowered the dams of American Evangelicalism. The person who does not understand what happened there and who is not able to talk about the gospel in terms that pre-date this historical catastrophe ought to take Nate's advice - or Job's - and lay his hand on his mouth.

Frank Turk is obviously the popular kid at this table. So what? What is he contributing other than a little goofiness, a little flippancy, a little sentimentality, and an occasional guilty confession about his family choices which he can't actually change so blogs about instead in order to cleanse his conscience? Ugh. I think the commenter who suggested moths instead of flies was right on. On the other hand the commenter who dared take the sacred word "Shekinah" in his mouth just to talk about these goofy black-and-white comic-book pixels ought to be ashamed. And so should all of you who kow-tow so obligingly to the "light" of mere human esteem. This emporer has no clothes.

I, for one, want the old Pyromaniac back - the one with lucid arguments and insightful comments about Eternal Truths.
