This is where I am right now ...

by Frank "centuri0n" Turk

I'm intrigued by this group blogging thing because Phil is going to post prolly once in a while, Jonathan is unlikely to post until he has completed his current assignment about-which we should not talk until it is complete, and James and Daniel are likely to post more frequently than me.

So I thought I'd get my licks in early.

As I type this, the announcement has been up about 24 hours according to the officials at Technorati, and already 20 blogs have linked to the new venue. It seems that if people actually like you before they disagree with you, they are far more willing to maintain a relationship with you. I'll write that down someplace and try to remember it ...

I had Taco Tico for lunch yesterday -- is that controversial? I prefer it over Taco Bell because it is fresher. I know that's a somewhat-esoteric measure when you're referring to fried hamburger, but it's the tomatoes that really make the difference. They are cold and resilient rather than warm and spongy, and they sing when you bite them.

To get a flavor for what's going to happen sometime tomorrow today, I was reading James' and Daniel's blogs, and somehow I seem to wind up in the company of pastors. Nobody tell my wife, OK? Because she's terrified that I'm going to tell her some day, "Sweetie, I'm called to be a pastor," and she's going to have to kill me. She didn't sign up to be a pastor's wife, and she doesn't believe in divorce. You do the math.

Also, I'd like to point out that until someone else says something controversial, I'm going to honor my friendship with Phil by keeping a rein on the tongue. (that's for the spelling mavins in the meta) After reading our editorial policy, I'm not sure many of my home-blog posts would make it here without significant rework.

So that's where I am right now. It's kinda like moving into a temporary office that's a little bigger than you'’re used to. It sounds funny, and there aren't enough pictures of my kids on the walls ...

Just wanted to get things of on the right foot.

I just want to know what they are singing while you bite them

already 18 blogs have linked to the new venue.

Well, yeah, I mean we were already all linked to half the old venues . . .

Keeping a reign on the tongue is always a good thing. :o) I look forward to the content here, it'll be fun, profitable, and worthwhile, I think.

Ditto, I can't wait to see what's in store for Pyromaniacs! :-)

Centurion:

Blogger does not allow one to time-release posts, but you can post-date them. All you have to do is click on the "Post and Comment Options" at the bottom of the "create post" frame. Then you can choose a date and time.

I write the posts on my blog at night. I go to bed early for work, so I usually choose 12:01am of the next day for my posts. That way they are dated for the following day.

Junior --

It's a brilliant solution ... if you don't embed graphics or other HTML tags in your text. I hate e-mailing posts to Blogger. I always have to go back in and reformat them.

IWT --

If you'll notice, I did in fact post-date the post, so the date on the post is post-dated from the date when the post was posted.

Thanks, however, for yor alert readership.

randy --

Usually a diced tomato by default sings operetta, but in a Mexican fast-food place they usually do Los Lobos covers. You can hear it if you put your ear right next to someone else's mouth while they eat. Try it today.

cold and resilent?

yuck

Tomatoes should be warm and fresh tasting.

Rubber is cold and resilent

Next your going to tell me you believe in Santa too.

Frank, how do you define "keeping a reign on the tongue?" :-)

Incidentally, keeping a "reign" on the tongue means that you are elevating the tongue to a place of royalty. On the other hand, keeping a "rein" on the tongue means that you are restraining the tongue. Just thought you might want to know. I wonder if the statement was subliminal. :)

just for fun:Reign

1 a : to possess or exercise sovereign power :
RULE b : to hold office as chief of state although possessing little governing power...in England the sovereign reigns but does not rule.
2 : to exercise authority in the manner of a monarch
3 : to be predominant or prevalent (chaos reigned in the classroom)

Etymology: Reign of Terror, a period of the French Revolution that was conspicuous for mass executions of political suspects: a state or a or a period of time marked by violence often committed by those in power that produces widespread terror

see...subliminal. :)

Sheesh. One typo and the meta goes crazy.

What's that all about? By the time you read this, it'll be fixed.

Man! I HATE not being the first one to break a rule. I can't believe out of a team of four or five guys, somebody else was the first. Clearly, I am in over my head here. Wow.

Hey, Cent, if I go ahead and post now before noon PST do you think maybe I can at least join you in the Principal's office?

étrangère said...

Ah no Centurion, I think you're mistaken: only an Italian diced tomato sings Operetta. I once heard a German tomato singing Wagner - now that was scary.

FX Turk said...

I thought Midnight was the line of demarcation. If I broke the rule in a way worse than I intended to, I'm sorry.

Prolly. Prolly not.

Momo said...

Oh man, you are good. As a closet rebel myself, I am deeply impressed. You already have your excuse in line!

Mr Turk,

If you were trying to be uncontroversial why did you make the first official post on Pyromaniacs a "This is where I am right now..." post? I figured your first post would be about Chadd allens Continuationist views of Baptism. That would be non-confrontational.

Sincerely,
Peanut Gallery

Cent,

What is the "editorial policy" at TeamPyro?... just curious what we can (and cannot) look forward to.

Respectfully,
Eric

Hmm, The Taco Bell I worked at as a kid did everything rea and fresh.

To be honest I was stunned when they had us hand cutting olives, grating cheese and lettuce and dicing toatoes right off the truck at a large chain fast food joint.

But that was back when the shmeradactyls roamed the earth...

LeeC said...

Oh, and I still hate this laptop keyboard, almost as much as it seems to hate consonants and spaces between words.

Hey djp, thanks for the encouragement, bro.

For Centuri0n and all, I feel better now. I just went back and re-read Phil's guidelines and saw where he asked us not to trivialize the place up too much at the beginning and I realized that absolutely none of my comments today had anything to do with the actual content of your post. So . . . I actually have been somewhat defiant, though perhaps not as blatantly as the Centuri0n.

Do you think Phil is worried yet?

Frank Martens said...

I like the disclaimer at the bottom of this site.

And good luck on the tongue thing Frank.

No Taco Tico in this part of the world (yet) but still, I'm sure I'd prefer tacos with tomatoes that sing than sushi that says, "Ouch!"

Did you know that the diced tomato was the vegetable of choice for the wild Italian schmeradactyl back in the 12th century BC?

What does prolly mean? Is that some American Colloquialism?

FX Turk said...

It's the way my 4-yr-old says "pro-bab-ly".

"prolly" = "probably".

Carla Rolfe said...

Frank,

one of my mom's kids (prolly not me, since I never mess with words) said "prolly" instead of probably, and she adopted that usage when I was little. I've been saying it that way (jokingly, at times) ever since.

So...you prolly stole it from my mom. :o)

FX Turk said...

Prolly you're right.

All the time I've spent in Siloam and I've never eaten at Taco Tico. Maybe the next time I'm up we can eat there. That is, if Callahans still isn't accepting plastic.

And now I have to take back a lot of nice things I've said about you. Sheesh.

FX Turk said...

djp:

Your " (C; " had better have a copyright or something. Otherwise I'm going to steal it.

and my word verification is "yfDOhzzy". I'm not sure it passes the Phil's Gramma's ruler test.

DJP said...

Yes, Frank -- but would it be stealing if I said it was OK for you to use it? And would that rob all the fun for you?

A lot of people get confused by my emoticons. It's simple enough, though: like most of what I write, you just have to tilt a bit to the right in order to understand.
