Happy Birthday

by Phil Johnson

ow that the secret's out and the party's on, I want to wish my dear wife a happy birthday. I won't say how old she is; only that Rebecca's cake has almost twice as much candle as the event requires—and I'm happy to say that Darlene has lived more than half her life with me in marital bliss.

Well . . . it's been bliss for me, anyway.

To Darlene: Happy birthday. I love you.

PS: To Dan Phillips: Your turn to post. We need something with substance. I know you'll come through.

Let me be the first to wish you a happy birthday, Darlene! I won't give away your age . . . only to encourage you to be kind to your elder sister in the Lord!

Happy birthday, Darlene! Make sure that Phil gets you an extra special present (or at least washes the dishes)! Better yet - make sure he takes you out to a nice restaurant (i.e., one that actually has cloth napkins :).

Happy Birthday! Hope your sons and your husband make the day extra-special. It's ok, the 50's aren't bad at all. :) Even if you are not quite there yet.

I had no idea. We would have sent a card or a singing telegram or something.

They say "Hippo Birdy" at Hallmark. I have no idea what that means. I think it's supposed to be nice.

You're a fine example as a Christian husband.

I can see it now: All I got for my birthday was this blogpost. It's kinda like the shirt, only better.

Happy birthday, Darlene! Make Phil take you out to an expensive restaurant in Newport Beach, preferably one where they won't embarrass you by sending a bunch of clapping waitresses and waiters to sing "Today It's Your Birthday" at your table.

At one Mexican restaurant here, waitresses charge up to the unsuspecting celebrant and pour a huge Marguerita down his/her throat. Such potential embarrassments are one reason I tend to avoid going out in public on my greying day.
