Another One Bites the Dust. . .

by Phil Johnson

hree mostly personal things, quickly:

  1. Pecadillo is officially engaged. For those wondering why he has been not-blogging for the past umpteen months, now you know. Since it's not really smart to post a lot of identity-related details on the Internet, let me just say that Pecadillo's bride-to-be is a real treasure: sweet-tempered, musically gifted, fun to be around, and she genuinely loves the Lord. Her father is a pastor and gifted Bible expositor. Though she grew up most of her life a thousand miles away, about 15 years ago she and her family lived pretty near to us, and she and Pecadillo were even students in the same grade school in 1992. (See above yearbook pics.) But they didn't actually meet until last summer. Darlene and I love her. We couldn't be more excited.
  2. January 25 is my Mother's birthday. I won't say exactly how old she is, but both she and my Dad have now managed to get well past 75 without becoming dour, senile, or sedentary. It gives me great hope. I apparently come from good genetic stock. Happy birthday, Mum. I love you.
  3. January 25 is also the official two-year bloggiversary of PyroManiacs, Team-Blog version. To celebrate, just like last year, I'm closing the blog for a week or so. I'll be on the road during the hiatus, back at Sean Higgins's snow retreat, then to a conference in New Jersey, then to a conference in the Dallas area. So I really need a break from the blog. You can still visit Dan's blog or Frank's blog for your daily Pyrofix. They get to say whatever they like on their own blogs, so it's like Dan and Frank unplugged. Have fun. Behave. See you in February.

When I got engaged, we were poor, but we could afford to each have our own pair of glasses...looks like these two lovebirds just share the one pair. If that's not "livin' on love", what is?

Congratulations to Pecadillo, his fiancee, Phil, and Darlene!

Ha-ha, by coincidence (?), January 25th is my "re-birthday" (to use Sharon's term from the previous thread) as a regenerate Christian. Redeemed by the blood of Christ one year ago tomorrow! Praise the Lord! (And you celebrate by taking a week off? I'm traumatized!)

Happy "birthday" to the three of you, and thank you for all your godly counsel.

The glasses are Pecadillo's. However, they both have precisely the same degree of nearsightedness and the exact same corrective prescription, so they occasionally share.

Stefan:

Not just a week. It'll be about nine days. From past experience, I expect the comment threads will stay active, even though the lifeguards are off duty.

"Darlene and I love her. We couldn't be more excited."

Tremendous feeling in the soul. Been there, and it's an excellent joy from above.

Lord bless them. Amen.

Happy Second anniversary to the team & congratulations to Pecadillo!

This blog has been very valuable to me in months gone by and I look forward to what the guys have to say in the future.

Phil's recent post on total depravity was one of the best I have read since I started visiting here :).

It's providence!

I've seen some of the legendary "unattended" threads from times past. They take on a life of their own.

Big congratulations to the (adorable!!) couple, God's richest blessings on them.

Happy 2nd blogoversary TeamPyro!

My goodness, only 2 years? seems like forever! (heh) Pyromaniacs is the place I cut my blog teef on, tho-to-thpeak. *grin*
Pretty much every post I've ever read here has in some way been greatly edifying....I've laughed (often) and at times have been moved to tears (good ones).

Thanks again for what you guys do here, I know it takes ALOT more effort than we can appreciate. This place has meant more to me than I can even convey, well without getting too gloppy n stuff.

God Bless your time away, see ya when ya get back, someone will leave a light on I'm sure :)

P.S. ~ Happy Birthday Mrs. Phil's Mom You sure raised a fine boy :~)

Somebody point to this post the next time Phil starts mumbling about "only having about 25 years left".

As for being unplugged, when that times comes I am sure there will be a long line of TeamPyro commenters who will be there to make sure the Doctors unplug me properly.

Congrats!
the best and most telling line "...and she loves the Lord"...

Praise God!

Thanks to the whole Pyro crew for the hard work they put in to have us here in internetland reap the blessing....

How nice for you. What a blessing.

They'd have to come through me and my Whirling Cane of Death.

Congrats. Pecadillo! That's wonderful news. Also congrats to your parents, because knowing your child has found a wonderful mate is an incomparable blessing.

And warmest congratulations to TeamPyro on your bloggiversary. You've made quite an impression on the Christian blogosphere. May God richly bless you.

Well, congrats to the whole Johnson clan.

I told Darlene this already, but that young lady is going to have the most AWESOME mother-in-law ever!

And her father-in-law ain't to shabby, either.

And if they are both nearsighted, tell them to start saving now. Their kids will be doomed.

I'm truly happy for them, but I must admit I have no idea who "Pecadillo" is, or why he would choose a screen name that means "a slight offense."

DJP said...

Since we're all talking to Pecccadddilllo... me too:

In choosing a woman who "is sweet-tempered, musically gifted, fun to be around, and she genuinely loves the Lord," you've given your parents a great gift; more than you, as a son, can understand yet. No Genesis 26:35 for them.

Hmmm, she looks kinda familiar.

Congratulations to Pec and to the Johnson's!

Phil, you have a problem. Get help.

I thought that it was previously determined that your weapon of choice was the LOTR sword....

Do you have a permit for said cane?

Scott F. said...

This is such *fantastic* heart warming news, and an incredible blessing for both families! The Pecadillo's-to-be are so perfect for each other!

Warm congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Phil! God is so good.

Woo Hoo!

However, they both have precisely the same degree of nearsightedness and the exact same corrective prescription, so they occasionally share.

That explains alot.

And it sounds all Gospelly like and could be adapted as a new missions statement.

Congratulations to the soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Pecadillo! Wedding invitiations? Hey, we all got invited when he graduated from police academy...

Can you imagine thousands filling his church for the wedding, with everyone having a laptop and wireless Internet, blogging it simultaneously?

Does this mean the Pec-ster will be posting something soon?

Actually, with Phil on break, this would have been a good time for something to get Pecadillian treatment.
