Jersey
by Phil Johnson
onday is normally my day to post, but I'm currently in New Jersey in order to be part of the Ocean City Bible Conference with Thabiti Anyabwile, Paul Tripp, Fred Zaspel, and Pastor Kevin O'Brien.
This is a beautiful place and the weather today is perfect. But the only access I have to the Internet is by phone. So I'm taking the day off from the blog.
Feel free to talk amongst yourselves.

As a certified watchblogger or something like that (maybe certifiable) I have to say I did not appreciate the tone of this post. So I think it should be easy for everyone to see that Phil needs to watch his tone.
Second, what No Free Ice Cream today? GRRRRR...Now the world turns its watchful eyes to you Dan Phillips and Frank Turk, will you provide us with the "Free Ice Cream" we so desire?!
"Feel free to talk amongst yourselves."
So. How 'bout them Dawgs? ;)
I like cheese...
I just wanted to get that out in the open.
I like turtles .
Dallas should have beaten the Redskins last night.
Man what a crazy game.
Go Ravens beat the Jets!
Now see, a true emergent would see the lack of a blog post as a good thing, because to actually provide some sort of spiritual discernment would be to contricting and off-putting to the seeker.
Only by foresaking all this tiresome "instruction" can we truly follow our own path to g-d. Well done!
Can someone explain to me the intricacies of the Thomistic philosophical position, and how he tried to relate 'faith and reason'?
Shouldn't that keep us busy for a while? :.)
I don't like turtles.
Their is no excuse for Man Utd letting Everton come back to tie in penalty time. Ridiculous.
I like cheese too. And coffee. Cheese and coffee...
The Blue Bombers laid an absolute shellacking on the Roughriders yesterday, decimating them 31-2.
Beautiful.
I feel the second coming of the Schmeradactyl is imminent.
ManU are overrated.
Cheese, please; hold the coffee.
I like whine with my cheese...
This guy likes to eat really weird "food" items!
NLB has hit on the single most disgusting Man vs. Wild moment — which is saying something!
I heard that Terry Jones now wants to burn all of the playbooks of the entire Atlantic Coast Conference.
Dunno... But Terry Kath was sure an amazing guitarist.
You guys are so much fun!
My mom makes the best cabbage rolls...and best salad...and best you name it. I tried to emulate her dishes, but something is missing...could be the love she puts into it.
By the way, if my wife stole my heart...is that a violation of the the eighth commandment?
See ya later, my Christ-loving fellows.
Get this kid on your fantasy guitar league for the future.
oink
Zaphon,
It's only stealing if you run off.
I'm presuming she stayed, which works kind of like a plea bargain.
No ones's saying she didn't do it, they're just saying it's OK.
And yes to cheese and coffee and to Dallas should've beating the 'Skins.
No, by the way, to broccoli and bananas. Especially bananas.
Alan Haynes is still alive. You should try out this guy. Austin, TX is the place, but he plays Houston once a month.
I'm enjoying the fact that the Saints' defense can actually win a game for them when their high octane offense is a bit rusty. I feel sorry for Miami and San Francisco next week. Well, not really feeling too bad for the Niners after all the years they dominated the Saints.
John I like your addition of coffee to my cheese... can I keep that? I mean really... it works.
I like cheese. I don't like football, or baseball, or basketball, or pretty much any sport except cricket.
And I love my husband, who doesn't like sports either. And who likes that I like cricket.
What's Cricket? Is it related to Brockian Ultra-Cricket?

Stevo, I'd be happy to if Phil hadn't gone and put a fifty word limit on comments today.
;o)
Now that we've got that New Orlean's game out of the way, Bret Favre's going to take us all the way to the SuperBowl. Just watch and weep.
Thanks for letting me share that, Phil.
BascicallyMike:
But 50 words at a time is worth somethin' right? I'm especially intrigued by the argument that all 'knowledge' is only known through sensory experiences. What's wrong with this statement?
Robert Warren:
Methinks a Squirrel got ya beat in a tweet.
It was worth a good snicker, snort, and re-tweet from me, anyhow.
Can anyone speak to the argument that all knowledge results from sensory experiences as posited by Thomas Aquinas, or am I misunderstanding him?
You can use Hume, Kant, Butler, et al. in your reply.
I'm trying to learn something here people, help me out! :)
Daryl: Canada EH? Moi aussi.
Barbara:
You mean the ACC playbooks aren't twilight books?
Phil I understand that you are busy and have many important things to do but while your over there can you do something to stop the Jersey Shore T.V. show. It's for the sake of humanity.
Robert:
Twilight Zone, maybe.
Hey, do you remember the Twilight Zone episode where the guy's electric razor comes after him?

A_Thing_About_Machines
Another movie by M.Night Shyamalan.
Yawn.
Phil,
For what it's worth, I've been "semi-live blogging" the conference. If you want to check out my accuracy at blogging your talk,(and the others) it's at dailygatherings.blogspot.com
"..Bret Favre's going to take us all the way to the SuperBowl. Just watch and weep."-bp
Don't think the old man, whom I admire, has the umph left to make it.
However Flacco is Super bowl bound. He just beat the Jets, on an off day, yet he converted 11 of 19 third downs.
Go Ravens!
To continue the turtle theme, I give you the Turtle Man.
Hey, is this still a free for all? If so, I've got a question for Dan, and for all those who are proficient in Biblical Hebrew.
How do you (all) prefer to translate a wayyiqtol sequence? Would you just write, "And...and...and..." or would you try to show sequence and the movement of the narrative in English, like "And...then...now...," etc.?
I ask that question hoping for two answers, which may be the same: (1) If you were just doing sermon-prep translation, and (2) if you were on an English Bible translation committee.
Tom Chantry.
Cricket is played with a round ball, smaller than a basball.
You try to hit it with a piece of wood you call a bat.
The bat is flat on the one side and triangle at the back.
Eleven guys on both teams.
You play it for five days,or in one day.
You even play a game in under 3 hours.
In South-Africa and most highly civilized countries its known and loved.
The only cheese I want with coffee is cheeseCAKE.
Or is it coffecake with my cheese? I get so confused.
Hm. That sounds somewhat less interesting than Brockian Ultra-Cricket. Safer, though.
No One Likes M. Night Shyamalan
Stan - LOL
Mike - well, if a non-answer is an answer, here's your answer. There is no answer.
You can't really give a blanket "always-do-it-this-way." My default is to render them sequentially ("then"). I recently got a grammar to review, by Duane Garrett, in which he approaches it differently than I learned; so I want to (find the time to) ponder that through.
So there's your answer.

bp,
I think you're going to have to wait for Frazier to take over the team before they can win it all. Childress just can't manage a game.
one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen twenty twentyone twentytwo twentythree twentyfour twentyfive twentysix twentyseven twentyeight twentynine thirty thirtyone thirtytwo thirtythree thirtyfour thirtyfive thirtysix thirtyseven thirtyeight thirtynine forty fortyone fortytwo fortythree fortyfour fortyfive fortysix fortyseven fortyeight fortynine fifty fiftyone fiftytwo...hey???
So there's your answer.
I thought that was a fine answer, Dan. Thanks!
Donsands: Don't think the old man, whom I admire, has the umph left to make it
Yeah, that's what they said last year. :P
Robert, I'm not a big fan of Childress either, but once Rice gets back in the game, even he can't stop 'em! :D
bp,
I keep thinking 12 men in the huddle and why is Favre passing instead of Minnesota running the ball? I mean, I'm VERY happy with the outcome of that game, but seriously...that was with Rice and it cost your team the game.
While you're there, could you please find out what on earth 'wooter ice' is?
