A weekend off

by Frank Turk

The last weekend, Phil spent the weekend with his dad, I spent the weekend with Phil and his dad, and Dan, as usual, did all the work when the hill gets high. Whilst Phil and I were essentially loafing all weekend, Dan was at PCRT 2009 blogging as if Western Civilization depended upon it. He may have actually and officially outblogged Challies this weekend, which is by itself its own kind of punishment and reward.

Now, I say that about my friend Dan because I am ridiculously jealous of his accomplishment this weekend. And the only assistance I can offer him at this point is to simply provide this post, which is an index of his work this weekend. Yes: he blogged all of this between Friday Morning and Saturday Night. I was laughing at Phil's concupiscence toward the Mac computing platform. You be the judge of who's the better man.

If you see this and all the links aren't updated, I will fix them as the day permits. However, let me say with all joking aside that Dan did one amazing job of live-blogging this conference and set a standard (as he is wont to do) for others to follow.

The fruits of Dan's efforts were much appreciated!

Standard! You said it! 7 posts a day from Centurion... we demand you meet the standard!

There are a couple of remarkable things about Dan's contribution:

1. He took requests beforehand on which sessions we undeserving readers would like to see notes from. In an illustration of superabundant grace, he transcribed every general session, and only limited himself on the breakout seminars (where four were going on at the same time). (Here's the schedule.)

2. No one asked him to do this—not in a capacity as a church or conference volunteer, nor in response to a formal invitation. He was not the preselected official liveblogger of these proceedings. Certainly, many brothers (and the occasional sister?) do liveblog the conferences they attend, and it's to their readers' benefit; but this has got to be a singular example of a purely voluntary effort.

I'm not writing this because I'm a grovelling sycophant (which I am), but because it's really stunning what brother Dan has done here.

Nice post Frank.

God bless!

Now Frank tries to derail his own meta with the Mac/IBM/Windows debate.

I wish The Buggles would update "Video Killed the Radio Star" to something computer oriented.

Dan = The Man.

And then this morning he posts a long movie review on his own blog. Who can keep up with that sort of standard?

"Pepsi, cheeseburger. Pepsi, cheeseburger."

That's all I could think of when I saw that picture.
Though it does look like a bacon cheeseburger really.

The TeamPyro three amigos are doing a great service to the Body of Christ in the grace and truth of our Lord. Always building us up, and standing in His strength by faith, for the Gospel truth.

I give thanks to God, "Remembering..your works of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God our Father", (1 Thes. 1:3).

Whilst Phil and I were essentially loafing all weekend,

Just as long as you all had a chance to stop by SONIC, all was not wasted.

As he is wont to do, or as he won't ever do again?

Sonic was never had. It was quite a let-down.

What a series of posts.

Kind of like drinking from a fire hydrant.

In a good way.

Solameanie said...

With all the good barbecue joints around, you guys have to go to Sonic?

If I had done what Dan did....

"Hey, how was the conference?"

"I don't know, I was blogging the whole time."

Dan should receive a free pass from posting new entries for a week!

Links fixed. Thanks all for your patience.

My husband says that not only was Dan diligently typing the whole time, he also knows how to pick out a great pizza and be gracious company after exhaustively working on his posts.

DJP said...

Mercy, what a lot of work you put into this, Frank! Thanks.

Hey, I wish all hard work could be this much fun and this rewarding all-around!

And Candy, tell your good husband that the pleasure was mine.

That Dan. If he had a blog, I'd definitely read it.

Fred: do they still not have Sonic on the Left Coast? Or do you just not eat there because In-N-Out Burger is so good?

DJP said...

I know we've got at least one up in my neck of the woods. Valerie and I went there and thought of the Johnsons and Turks (with whom we'd Sonicked previously).

You guys just need to come to LR. There's even one really close to Frank's new office.
