This is important

by Frank Turk

OK, we don't usually do this, but this is important. A real scholarship is on the line here.

Look at this:

The blogger is yellow is our friend Mark Lamprecht, the blogger also known as "HereIBlog", at http://www.hereiblog.com/. He was in second place until a secular blog plugged the current first-place blogger.

He needs to be in first place to win the scholarship, and you people have to vote. This doesn't even cost you money -- it will take 60 seconds to click here and vote for Mark Lamprecht.

Right now. This thing has a shelf life.

Sorry Dan -- they can get angry about their closet Charismaticism after they vote for Mark.

Thank you, brother Frank. I truly appreciate this post and the votes that will (hopefully) follow.

I voted, but he's behind by like 11,000 votes.

Who is this Christie Wilcox? Looks like she has it all sewn up. (Oops, can I use that metaphor when talking about a female blogger?)

PZ Myers’ is promoting Wilcox who is a science major. It appears she jump by over 4,300 votes in less than an hour. That is, providing the documentation in the comments are correct.

*Christie Wilcox: 6100 55% of all votes
It’s just the power of popularity and numbers.

I voted for Mark even though I've never visited his blog.

I too voted for Mark--I also wrote one of the essays to enter him in the contest. I will tell you what I think is happening-the way they have it set up it seems to me that you can go on multiple computers and vote many times. I have a sick feeling that is why she is so far ahead. Christians play fair and won't cheat(hopefully, although I am sorely tempted)-but you'd better believe that many of her supporters have voted many times. All I had to do was check a box. They may track my one computer but I have 2 others in the house, and I am sure I could have voted on each of them(I just checked it out and I could vote on my other 2 computers). It is a sad but true that many of them are doing just that. Imagine the difference it would make for Mark if each of us who had more than one computer voted on each one.
Well that's what you get when you are dealing with the world!
Situations like these make me glad to know that God is sovereign. We need to pray for Mark as well as vote for him!
Thanks for putting this out there Frank!

I voted too then I added you to my blog role :-)

Done, voted for Mark.

I voted but alas, it appears he is a bit behind. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised; just like in the world, Christians in the blogosphere are drastically outnumbered!!

Is there any way to forward this to other Christian blogs/websites (TGC, 9Marks, etc.)?

Done.

I read somewhere, maybe in the comments, that P.Z. Meyers was leading the charge for the other person and bringing in a bunch of science bloggers and/or professionals.

It seems it would be difficult to catch them,

In light of that it might make more of a statement if 100 people contributed $100 out of pocket to Mark.

I dunno. Just seems discouraging that an evolutionary scientist can get enough people to sway this vote but Christians cannot see to bring in enough votes to win this for Mark.

Pity.

I'm Christie's mom and she is not cheating. No one is. There are just a whole lot of science nerds in cyberspace. There are three prizes. And Mark has a real chance for 2nd place.

If you support Mark, keep your friends voting. I would hate to see him lose to the make-up blog, currently in 2nd place. I have been impressed by his gain today. You votes are making a difference

Hope you all understand that I voted for Christie.

And if you might want to check out Christie's blog to see why people are so passionately behind her.

Victoria said...

Hi Christie's mom--yes we all know you voted for her! lol
My point is that there is a way to vote more than once. I did not accuse Christie or anyone in particular. Thank you for being so kind in the way you addressed my concern.

Just swinging past to mention that the Pharyngula blog alone gets around 90 thousand views a day. Christie is also getting backing from a lot of other science blogs out there, so what's surprising is actually that she only has 13 thousand votes. There's no cheating here. Non-Christians have a sense of fair play, too.

Anyway, well done to all the finalists for getting this far. The extra exposure from being in the competition will have done them all well.

David, that is true about being surprised there are not more votes for Christie.

However, between this blog (about 70K/month?) and Challies, who has 12,000+ subscribers there is enough people to put me ahead of Christie. But like many things online everyone who subscribes/follows doesn't read or participate in everything.

I'm very appreciative of everyone who has given me their votes. I also appreciate Christie's mom pulling for me for second. That's a very nice gesture.

I voted the day Frank put this up.

I'm sure that many other folks have voted for you, too, Mark, even though they didn't comment here.

Your welcome. Hopefully you all can get some votes to catch up to second place. Good luck.
