So now we know, if we didn't already, that the American Congress actually has 509 seats, given that the unelected tyrants sitting on the Supreme Court regard it as their job to create legislation and impose it on their subjects.
Through the day, I'll expand this post to include my tweets on the subject, along with other noteworthy additions.
First: this one I actually scheduled simply from my reading of Revelation, without a thought to the Supreme Court. Yet it was published after, and applies perfectly:
Revelation 19:16—Let every king, president, potentate and ruler know: there is one above you, who is and will be your King and Judge

Those kids who changed the rules in the playground game so they could always win have grown up to be President and Chief Justice.

What an appalling failure this Supreme Court is. Like finding a pederast CPS agent. Psalm 146:3

So, weird thought. 2017: A homosexual man repents, believes in Christ, wants to join your church. He's "married." Must he "divorce" first?

Post-Christian America has led, inevitably, to post-American America.

If the Supreme Court ruled that triangles now have 4 sides, how many sides would triangles have?

I would like to point out in response to Hamilton that Roberts dissented from this opinion. This one's all on Anthony Kennedy, who also provided the deciding vote in Planned Parenthood v. Casey and Kelo v. New London.
Reminds me of the old joke about a Catholic neighborhood that, offended by the smell of meat cooked by a Jew on Friday, convinced him to become a Catholic. A priest intoned, "Born a Jew, raised a Jew, now a Catholic." Next Friday, they again smelled meat cooking. When they saw the Jew, he was cooking meat, and intoning, "Born a cow, raised a cow, now a fish."
Surprised there isn't much more said here, I guess we are all still in shock, even though we all knew it was coming. I guess some of us are wondering how much longer before we have to start underground churches here in the USA.
I liked Huckabee's response at any rate, glad somebody said it.
It seems that suddenly 'counting the cost' may be about to take on a new meaning here is the US.
There's no shock, at least for those who understand the Bible. And there is no defeat for the true church or for the Gospel. Jesus didn't get it wrong: the gates of hell will never prevail against His church. And the Gospel remains the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes.
Now is the time for each Christian to say with Paul, "I am NOT ashamed of the Gospel!"
Where does the 509 number come from?
Dan
Please excuse the string of quotes:
Ben Franklin, when asked what kind of government they gave us "A republic, madam, if you can keep it."
George Washington " our government was made for a moral and religious people. It wholly inadequate for the governance of any other."
Francis Schaeffer: "a conservative secularism is as dangerous as a liberal secularism."
De Tocqueville: some people have the torch of liberty snatched from their hands. I fear Americans will cast it on the ground and stamp it out themselves."
What version of the Bible are you using to quote Rev 19:16?
My ESV says Rev 19:16 - On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
Quite a difference. As soon as I read your post I thought, that verse is going on my Bible Memory list! I just need to verify.
I can't see any tweet in which I quote Revelation 19:16. When I tweeted my comment based on it, I'd been reading the Greek text.
The Hamilton tweet was before this abominable ruling and was actually regarding the previous day's abominable ruling, in which Roberts and his fellow tyrants ruled that a law can mean the opposite of what the text of the law says. In effect this makes every law an ex post facto law, because whatever it says today, it can mean something else tomorrow, and that new meaning can be retroactively applied. As horrible as the sodomitic marriage ruling was, the previous was every bit as chilling for anyone hoping to retain any semblance of rule of law.
As someone said, the Roberts dissenting from enforcing sodomitic marriage should really get together with the Roberts of King v Burwell and work things out.
Although Roberts was on opposite sides of horrible rulings on consecutive days, both of them exemplify the same postmodern empty-brain unthinking nonsense that we can make whatever mean whatever we want whenever we want just because we feel like it later. It could hardly be a bigger disaster if Rob Bell was on the court.
The 509 should be 544 probably. There are 100 senators and 435 reps...
Is the church ready?
What will the church do when they are told to perform same sex marriage.
"OR ELSE"
It will happen.
I suspect The U.S.A. will become more progressive than even the most liberal
country today.
The speed of these changes seem unstoppable.
I suspect because as God has told us. He will give them over to depraved minds.
I have also wondered about the married gay that gets saved. Do we count that "marriage" as real? Do they get divorced or do we pretend that it wasn't real? Of course in the government's eyes they will be married so they have to do something. So very odd...
I wonder if Bible-believing churches have started looking at the effects of losing tax exempt status...because that is coming. And at the rate that the SSM culture change took place, it won't be long.
With respect to the sinner who repents of his sexual sin, and finds himself in a marital situation that isn't biblically valid, I suggest we take a cue from John the Baptist who likewise regarded Herod's marriage (to his brother Philip's wife) as invalid ("it is not lawful for you to have her"). Though the marriage would need to be legally dissolved through divorce, in the eyes of the church it would be annulled as never having constituted a legitimate marriage union.
