An unusual suspect ...
by Frank Turk
This is a completely one-off post, but Doug Wilson is giving Christopher Hitchens' latest book what-for. That in itself would be somewhat unremarkable, except that in this installment, he also gives what-for to those who are over-enthusiatic for the manifestations of the miraculous.
A sort of condiment for TeamPyro readers. Carry On.

For whatever it matters to you, Frank, I (A) don't fully understand Wilson's attraction, and (B) much prefer your writing. I usually understand what you're saying (and when I don't, it's probably my fault); and while you have fun with words, I never feel like you're TRYING to achieve a certain style. It just IS your style, and it's a great style.
Just in case anyone is interested, Jason Foster of Reformed Musings has also discussed Chris Hitchens' new book.

Here we go again! In the best tradition of fools everywhere journalist (of course) Christopher Hitchens, TAKES ON GOD!! That's right, Chris (to his friends) has written a new book entitled 'God is Not Great'. In it he 'takes jabs' at God based on his personal experience with 'religion' and 'religious' people. I guess nobody told him that the two are, and can be, quite antithetical. At any rate he confidently spouts his personal brand of bilge in the greatest assurance that he, as a puny little created being, has the right and wisdom to take on the Creator and succeed.
Of course he is not the first, and (we fear) won't be the last. Men of futile thinking and vain imagination have often ventured where angels, even fallen angels, fear to tread. In our recent experience we have heard from the likes of atheist Sam Harris, 'The End of Faith', and missing-link devotee, Richard Dawkins 'The God Delusion'.
Amidst all of the buffonery, however, we might seriously wonder what God thinks of these people. Is He rip-roarin' mad? Is He frustrated? Is He bummed-out? Oddly enough the Bible tells us what He thinks. In Psalm 2 we read about His response to all foolish people. It says;
"Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision."
Wow, God actually laughs at such pathetic fools! He literally shows His base contempt for those ignorant enough to show contempt for Him. And, well He should. Imagine; the feeble 'lump of clay' spouting his nescient notions against the Potter. Imagine a worm raising up to make war on the foot under which it wriggles. Imagine these, then imagine anything but futility.
Of course, Mr. Hitchens will not succeed. His rantings will rise and foam and die out, as the waves of the sea. The world will take momentary notice of him just as they notice a loud noise. He will enjoy the limelight, at least until the next joker comes along. In the end, barring an act of God to wake him up, he will go where all fools go and where they discover, to their eternal dismay, just how wrong they were.
What a great comment above!
Amen...
