Unbelievably good!!! I've been watching this in a library (where I'm the librarian) and have struggled to keep an illusion of staid decorum!

I loved the 'imagination' one, with the leprauchans. Could this be a new buzzword: leprauchan theology!!

Thanks so much for this. I'm going to embed it on my own blog!

Yer mean and nasty...just mean and nasty.

(but pretty much on point)

I found myself and my friends at the butt of a lot of those jokes.

But they still crack me up!

Daryl said...

Perhaps I'm reading too much into all this, but just cracking people up doesn't seem to me to be the point.

Mike Riccardi said...

I forgot who suggested it in another comment thread, but another good background song would be Bend Me Shape Me by the American Breed.

Bend me, shape me
Anyway you want me,
Long as you love me, it's all right
Bend me, shape me
Anyway you wnat me,
You got the power to turn on the light.

DJP said...

Frank, you are so cool. Is there nothing you don't do well?

I mean, besides punctuation?

DJP said...

Oh... and Frank?

Where's the Gospel in that?

aussy said...

Nice touch using the original "Little Less Conversation" instead of the re-imagined, re-painted, re-invented one.

Cubby Martinez said...

Punctuation. As if God used any punctuation.

Fantastic~ emailing a link around to the rest of the conservatives in the office. They are the only ones who will understand!

DJP said...

Think of it as part of the process of revelation, Chubby.

DJP said...

Er, Cubby.

philness said...

This is probably just me being me but is cubby martinez and cent the same dude? Ok, so how about daryl and drew?

centuri0n said...

Liner Notes:

The original Presley "Conversation" was Dan's idea, and while I toyed with the 12 different modern remixes, all of them frankly rob the original of its sassy brilliance. The Costello "What's so funny ...?" was Phil's idea -- and I mixed the two in order to get a music bed long enough to view each poster for at least 6 seconds. The sound effects where all me, as if anyone doubted that.

There is one poster missing from this mix, as Cubby noticed yesterday when I tried the original mix at my blog. To ruin your day, you can scroll through the list of 53 and try to figure which one it is. I know Cubby caught it because it's his favorite.

This is where liner notes usually devolve into inside jokes and ridiculous mentions of people none of you know. Forget it. Not gonna happen.

DJP said...

Aren't you going in the wrong direction, Philness?

It seems to me that the better question is whether Cent is only one dude, or whether he's actually a board of writers, like "Carolyn Keene" was. Otherwise, how could one person write so well about so many things after only being a Christian for, like nineteen days; do graphics; mix music; edit video's; and have such a lovely singing voice?

P T Hutch said...

Brilliant! Simply brilliant I tell ya!

I am also Doug Pagitt, and I'm faking that I can't do the eyebrow thing by winking.

donsands said...

"Of course I'm born again. Where did that question come from?"

Didn't see this one before. I liked it the best.

The whole video is fantastic. Good job.

It's definitely a keeper.

Thanks for being bold for the truth.

philness said...

Dialogue and Holiness are missing.

centuri0n said...

"Authority" is also missing.

Go figure.

philness said...

Still..you the man.

aussy said...

What about Bizaro?

SolaMeanie said...

Mike,

The American Breed thing was my suggestion. As before, seeing those lyrics had me reaching for my tube of Mentholatum Deep Heat. Can it have been that long ago? And the weird thing is, the same theology that sang along with the Youngbloods has reared it's Hydra head in another guise. Only this time, they drink lattes instead of eating hash brownies or peyote buttons.

SolaMeanie said...

Frank,

You realize, of course, that "A Little Less Conversation" could well lead to an EC response using a "Chatty Cathy" doll. I can also see some videos using Slinky toys, Twister, and in worst case scenario, a Ouija Board.

After all, if sounding the Om in a lotus pose while contemplating post navel drip passes for a spiritual exercise, why can't we summon up a spirit masquerading as Charles Spurgeon to tell us that we ought to stop relying on old, tired Scripture and hearken to the Bhagavad Gita instead?

Drew said...

I'm just me. There are enough people here that disagree with me--I don't have to invent one in Daryl.

And Daryl, while cracking people up may not be THE point, it certainly is among the best ways to tell the truth.

And there is a bit of truth in most of the posters, which, in turn, makes them hilarious.

But I guess "you don't accept my point of view, so it's pretty clear who the decisive one is."

Hahahaha!

centuri0n said...

There's no question: Bizarro was weird.

Daryl said...

Drew,

Stop talking to myself!!

Good point we/you/I made though.

(Ever notice that Drew & Daryl never post at EXACTLY the same time??? Hmmmm...)

SolaMeanie said...

Daryl,

Please don't start sock puppet rumors. That will be the next charge flung here, that the Pyromaniacs have all these aliases to post hundreds of sympathetic comments.

Besides, if you're going to make a good Emergent sock puppet, you need to start writing in all lower case like e.e. cummings, wear dark glasses and grow a little tuft of hair under your lower lip.

LeeC said...

And Drew wins the prize for the first person to admit that some of the posters point to him, and that they do indeed represent some truth. And on top of that they are funny.

I may disagree with you on many points Drew, but your an honest man on this.

Major kudos.

DJP said...

Is this where I should admit that I'm just Phil Johnson's angst-ridden, squishy sock-puppet?

Daryl said...

solameanie,

are you saying that those very few who have been banned are the ones who managed to slip past security and post between the pyro-alias comments?

i think solameanie disagrees violently with the pyro's and takes his "sick-leaves" when he feels like he's about to be discovered. very slick sola, very slick.

leec,

having been one of several who have engaged drew a few times, i second your post. well done drew, now if you would only change your/our mind... :)

by the way, has anyone ever met cent, dan and phil at the same time?

(how do we know that is wasn't cent who took down buddy on the mean streets of l.a.???)

LeeC said...

Well...you could have kept the "squishy" part to yourself at least.

Mike Riccardi said...

All of Daryl's suspicions and conspiracy theories remind me of N.T. Wright. What is this, the New Perspective on Pyro?

:o)

DJP said...

People in Tulsa have, Daryl.

Or they saw three guys with those names.

LeeC said...

Or they saw three guys who SAID they have those names.....

Daryl said...

Dan,

In Tulsa?? Are you sure they didn't first name you and then claim you?? Prophetic words constitute an unfair advantage.

Daryl said...

I suppose that would, like, canonize you or something...

wow,wow,wow,wow,wow

(can you sign my bible? or at least the incomplete bits I have so far??)

SolaMeanie said...

Caught out at last. Now I'll have to ban myself from my own blog.

But Daryl, you have at least given me another insight into our EC friends. Noting the increased use of the term "wow" here after Pastor Pagitt posted it, I know know that this was all inspired by listening to Sam (nee Leslie) Phillips' album, "The Indescribable Wow." Given her oft-expressed skepticism of evangelicalism these days, I think my suspicions are spot on target.
Music is WAY too influential in the church these days. I think we should begin considering the example of the Quakers and just sit there in silence. Then Simon and Garfunkel could do a song about is.

Oh, never mind. Been there, done that.

Daryl said...

sola,

YOU say you've been there and done that, maybe that's true for you but for me, I don't think you have.

SolaMeanie said...

No, no, no, Daryl. It's supposed to be "your truth is your truth and my truth is my truth." Never "it might be true for you but I don't think it's true for you." Be careful here. You're risking a rift in the time-space continuum by making statements like that. Think of all the religious relativists whose tenuous faith will careen off the beaten path by such a notion that someone's truth might not be true at all.

Daryl said...

P.S. I don't think Frank's a hard guy to find. The dude is everywhere. If anything, it's hard to get away from him. And that's Frank 2.0, who doesn't post 3x per day.

I do find it interesting when someone takes the time track another person down on their blog, write an eleven hundred plus word comment, and submit it on a completely unrelated post, but can't take two minutes to make sure they spell names right.

Maybe that's just me, though.

Hey, nice teamwork deleting my comment to Frank, Phil, giving him the chance to feign objection and everything. Your almost as good at commenting as you are at deleting them. Good work.

Um Todd,
Considering what it is you seem so intent on calling Cent to task I have to notice that every post you have made has been full of not so veiled insults.

What part of

Gimme something to work with here.

I don't know anything about "Avangelical" I just know this.

Jesus—God incarnate—was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life, died a substitutionary death on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the third day, and that if you believe in that, and trust in that completely, God will save you.

The rest is just gressing.

Trolling Dan? I commented on a month old post here about a month and a half ago, watched for a reply for a week, and would not have ever come back until accidently two nights ago I decided to dispose of my temporary link to my old comment here, when I find out that you dedicated a front page post to it. Trolling? I think this is the right time to pull out the "innane" word Phil. I think it's safer to say that I haven't been here trolling. And stalking, Phil, as you said earlier? Great, so you're one for cheap insults. I see your crowd loves that. Now I see why you weren't the one who wrote the response to the "attack dog" essay.

Your blog here is like watching WWF Wrestling Phil. I think it is anyway, because I don't watch either one. But your comments remind me of WWF Wrestler who pulls out a fake chair and hits another guy over the head and the crowd just loves it goes Ooooooooo, yah..that hurt for sure. So when do the 'pretty smart commentors, as a rule' show up around here? Lots of blogs in fact have rules against empty trash talk like yours.

So you put me on your front page and then when I come back it's trolling and stalking. But eventually we get back to your groups odd response to Aikman's much more interesting essay.

Gummby said...

I just have to say (to no one in particular) that I'm so glad Todd happened back by.

I had missed Cent's reply to Mr. Aikman's CT editorial, and having now seen it, Frank, I just have to say--the way you worked in that Star Trek VI quote was simply masterful. If you were any more culturally literate, you'd prolly have to convert to Emergent.

Todd said...

Errr...Dan, I mean. I keep calling Dan Phil. Sorry(don't take it personally Phil, whoever you are).

ALL FOR ONCE/ ONCE FOR ALL said...

Hey Todd,
Man I wish I could tell you my personal experience with the EC-but you probably wouldn't or couldn't believe it. It was bad news in a big way. The church I was in covertly introduced it to the congregation like the Tuskeegee experiment. I have see it weaken faith, destroy community, break marriages, all kinds of great stuff. I believe in one particular case someone died. Sure sounds like I'm being sensational doesn't it. Guess you'll just have to take my word for it I. I ain't too big on it (EC)--we clear on that. And the worse part- it's still going on. The congregation has no idea why the pain and bleeding continues. Why, because the guys doing it are flying under the radar. The congregation has never heard the word EC or had a change to review and/or accept it's warped teaching.

All the lame things that go on out there and Aikman blows his horn about this. Here's the dealio w/ Aikman. Why don't you surf around at Aikman's compound The Trinity Forum. Keep drilling around to find the mysticism. To me it stinks of Dominionism and Contemplative Spirituality. And Contemplative is at the bottom of the EC well.

Todd, I guess if you're into Contemplative prayer it probably won't bother you too much. We agree to disagree. Oh and by the way sorry if my pop-off bothered you. I was seriously joking, in fact if I don't joke about the EC the pain it caused me will come out. I suppose time heals and I know Jesus does.

I'm putting my little boy to bed now. Speak at you tomorrow.

PS-Silva and the Pyros are right about most of the EC, dead right.

Good job, guys. I liked the opening gong most of all, actually—like the opening clip in old J. Arthur Rank films. (Trivia: apparently he was a devout Methodist, of all things, who got his start making religious films. How a propos, in a roundabout way.)

BTW, I'm in Minneapolis at this very moment. If anyone's going to the DG Conference, look me up. I'd love to visit Solomon's Porch this weekend, but I don't think that's going to be possible. Maybe next time.
