Dodge: But {Revered Big Name Du Jour #247} says...
Biblical Christian Response A: Oh... sorry, do you not have a Bible? Can I get you one?
Biblical Christian Response B: Oops. My mistake. You want to compare biographies. I thought we were talking about Bible and truth. Perhaps you could look up a church historian? Maybe he could help you.

I love the reverend's name.
Proactive: for the role of human teachers, see this by Phil. I've written on it too... but I can't find the post!
I sense flavors here of the earlier post regarding Grudem and friends and the question of spiritual gifting.
That, and a hint of oak.
You have a very refined palate, sir.
That was a great little pre-emptive strike there. Was that within 10 minutes of posting or so? I couldn't find the time-stamp. Most impressive...
I wonder if what's going on here is the opposition's assumption that your Biblical proof for XYZ is your personal interpretation of the truth, and so they combat it with someone who they believe can interpret it better. What they miss, and why I believe it's a dodge, is that they're more willing to assume that (maybe because you've tilted a hobby horse of theirs) than to pick up the scriptures and test what you claim is a Biblical truth. They lose because they think they're sinking your argument with whatever Preacher Du Jour believes, when in fact they're doing the very thing they accuse you of.
Would've been sooner, but I was trying to find one by me. Oh well.
Isn't the gist of this the tension between these two verses, and trying to balance them in our study and lives?
I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the Lord...
Jeremiah 5:5
and...
Great men are not always wise...
Job 32:9
Tomorrow's review of Carson's book on the Spiritual Gifts ought to be helpful then ...
It could change everything.
EVERY THING.
Almost everything. It can't change the dictionary definition of a sycophant: A servile self-seeking flatterer, parasite.
Hooray! For once I actually get one of these! (And it's good...!)
Thank you sir.
sizzle!
