About a month ago I got this e-mail from Phil (you know: Phil Johnson -- world traveler, fancy but invisible editor, BMAGTY [Big Man at GTY], blogger, friend) asking me and Dan to pick our favorite posts at TeamPyro to start a "best of" category in the sidebar. And we all got busy ... doing other things.
Then yesterday, as I put up a request for my readers to do for me what I was somewhat recalcitrant in doing for Phil, I remembered that e-mail.
Well, you all read this blog, right? And something over the last 18-or-so months has to have been interesting enough to call it "the best of." So you can help us to help future readers by going to the meta and linking to your favorite TeamPyro posts.
I realize I will get no votes, and I don't want to hear any whining about former members of this blog who don't have posts listed here anymore. That's all part of the deal. The blog is what it is and you can pick from what we got. To be sporting, you can also pick from Phil's original blog because it was that good.
Have at it. And for those of you who are curious, don't spend the whole weekend doing this: be in the Lord's house with the Lord's people on the Lord's day this weekend, and don't bother comparing your pastor's message to a blog. There's no way a blog will love you enough to really try to watch out for your soul.

Well, how can a weekend be enough time to pick a fav? Frank, you'll have us all scouring the archives.
There are posts that I think of as favorites because they made me laugh, made me think. Some of them are my favorites because the comments took on a life of their own.
As a homeschool mom, I wish I could say that my favorite post had something to do with that. It doesn't. My favorite, the one that made the biggest impression on me is "Quick and Dirty Calvinism." A close second would be Dan's "Sister Have Mercy."
And Frank, how could I pick a favorite from among yours? It would be too difficult.
Like I said: I can't imagine any of my posts actually being among someone's favs when we have Dan and Phil's posts to choose from.
Thanks -- those are goodies.
I'm not going to pick a favorite post or three. I just can't.
But what I will say is, THANK YOU. You Pyros have been a real blessing to me--an encouragement and a challenge. You fellas are one of my daily stops, because I always find something good to think on here.
So that's it. God bless you for doing this. Because you've been a blessing to us.
Frank, you'll have us all scouring the archives.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
I think the one where Phil had 400 or so comments was incredible, since Phil had 1/3 or so of the comments. Superb really.
I really liked Dan's post on the 4th of July a couple years ago.
But really, all the posts here are exceptional. Some are impeccable. Keep on my brothers, and have a Lord blessed father's Day.
And yes Cent, "be in the Lord's house with the Lord's people on the Lord's day"; that's an exhortation I enjoy doing.
I believe "Sister, have Mercy" was excellent. So excellent that I made it my "article of the week" outside my study and had MANY wonderful responses to it. It was exceptionally done.
Frank's recent series on church involvement was really terrific. I learned truths and perspectives I'm sure to use, in particular, from The Jell-o Parable.
Some of us have/had pastors who are in love with their sermons, their books and their yet-to-be published books, rather than the sheep of their flock. Loving the sheep is not even on their radar.
Just testifyin'...
Maybe I'll do a search for the word, "Schmeradactyl." Those seem to rank pretty high on my list.
This very recent one.
I did it.
I scoured the archives.
After I posted my comment, I remembered a post by Frank back in the fall. Couldn't remember the name of it. I found it: "How Men Love" from October 2006.
Frank, when I said I couldn't pick one from among yours, it was because there are so many that I like, I couldn't choose, not because there aren't any.
Two posts are the hands down best for me, but they're both from Phil Johnson's old blog:
1. Quick-and-Dirty Calvinism, Phil's very first post, which gives so much excellent background on what this blog and its previous incarnation have been all about.
2. The one-and-only Schmeradactyl thread, the stuff of legend. A masterpiece.
Minor correction: Q&DC was the third post, but the first one of substance.
Ok, I want to know....what does "the meta" refer to? I embrace my ignorance and seek to grow out of it, so be kind.
Matthew Henry, it's blog slang for a discussion about the blog, or Wikipedia (for example) slang for discussions about Wikipedia. So shorthand for a discussion in any particular medium about that medium itself.
I think the term might come from linguistics, where "metalanguage" means those elements in a language that are used to describe the language...like the English words "noun," "verb," "sentence," and so on.
Matthew Henry:
First of all, let me say that your commentary on the Bible has been almost as helpful to me as the Pyro Blog. Oh, you're not that Matthew Henry?
What sewing was trying to say was that this is the meta. The comment section where serfs such as myself comment.
As far as favourite posts are concerned, Frank's series on how to read the bible is definitely my fave.
Wasn't there one where Pecadillo used a frozen meat chub to take down an international terrorist?
Or something like that.
That was very funny, and the timing was impeccable. The graphics of Pecadillo's takedown were great, too.
I vote for Pecadillo
Sadly, the reading series is the first thing that pops into my mind: that and the Angelz vs. Jack from 24 post, which someone already linked above.
The series for which this is the last (I think) post.

Seeing as Phil brought the topic up, can someone point me to where the frozen meat chub fascination began? I finally just found out about the schmeradactyl. Forgive my ignorance, I'm still a relative newbie around here.
Matt: here you go. It's actually listed under "Favo[u ;)]rite Posts" in the sidebar, under the title "Time Out...."
Here's my last year's top ten list. A lot of those would be in my list of all-time faves.
I'm st-ll -ndign-nt over your c-ncerns about my t-ne in that p-st.
Sorry. In your honor, I'm going to wear my faded bulls-eye t-shirt today.
Booyah. But in a nice way ...
Happy Father's Day.
I really dug Phil's series on Unity as related to Roman Catholicism.
